Default Schengen Visa

Just curious whether anybody knows the answer for below.

I live in Chicago and plan on visiting Sweden for a week as a tourist. Can I apply for Schengen visa at Chicago or do I have to mail the application and PP to New York.

Any help is well appreciated.
