Hello Sir / Madam,

Your office shows a Air side transit visa is required for Indian national holding Advance parole issued by USA.
( here is the link to your website )

But , when i checked with German consulate at Houston,USA on June 2 2010, they replied saying NOT required.

Could you please confirm.

Canadian PR looks good and donot need ATV if you are travelling to Canda, but its unclear if its exempted when travelling to 3rd country.

Default Response from

My family is returning from India(Hyd) to USA on Aug 19th by Air India. They will not be changing flights. Below is the response from VFS, the agent which processes or schedules the visa appointments

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for your mail.

Please note that if you an Indian passport holder and if you are not changing the terminal then visa is not required. If you are changing the terminal or if you will be getting out of the airport then Transit B is required. As we have a single helpline number number for Germany South, the lines are continously busy. However incase of query please mail to us or provide us your contact number.

Please find the attach list of required documents for Transit B visa.

For furthers clarifications please log-onto our website.

Thanks and Regards,

VFS Team

I second that: I traveled yesterday on Air India flight 127 from Mumbai to Chicago with a 2 hour stopover at Frankfurt (same flight and same gate). They accepted my advance parole document in Frankfurt without any questions.

Default Get the ATV

Today while we were going thru the check-in process (USA - India), the Airlines lady asked for a US visa, we gave her the AP, she scratched her head for a minute and went inside, came back after 15mins, and said you are good to go now but while coming back you need an ATV.
I asked her what was she doing inside with the AP - she tried calling the german consulate, couldnt get hold of anyone, then she called Lufthansa and got the confirmation that an ATV is required if you want to travel India - USA on AP.

you can argue this and that, but its loud and clear that an ATV is required if you are Flying Lufthansa and transiting thru Franfurt, period.

my .02c...

if possible, avoid these European countries who swindle us like this.
More than the money, its a big hassle. One has to go in person to get an ATV (atleast thats the rule in Chicago German consulate).
In Chennai its worse, you have to go to the VFS office one day and pay Rs.600 for them to look at your documents and make sure everything is intact, once that is done then you book an appointment to German Consulate thru VFS, then come back again.
What if you live in Kanyakumari ? out of your 3-4weeks of vacation you will end up spending easily 5days on all this crap.

If you are flying Lufthansa and only have an AP, just dont waste time, get your Airport Transit Visa asap.
-Hope my post helps atleast some, to plan their trip...

Thanks for this info!
I am planning for a UK visa and travel via London.
UK Visa + Airfare is cheaper than Lufthansa fare alone, same travel duration.
Any comments / Suggestions?

IF its cheap and you really like the Airlines then go for it. I am not sure about the UK visa, if you can get it thru mail then thats great. Also some airlines like Air India you will be sitting inside the flight during transit (i am not a big fan of sitting inside an aircraft for 16+hrs), in that case I guess you don't need an ATV, not sure thou.

Hey Roseball,

Can you confirm that when you travlled to India (i guess via FRK) were you required to show your ATV. I assume that your visa was expired already in your passport.

Please confirm as soon as possible since i am travelling to India using Lufthansa via FRK.

Thanks.
