Arrow IMPORTANT : For Hotels, priceline is the best.

I travelled to DC in May and I booked a poor quality 2-star Hotel in downtown DC for nearly 125 per night on Hotels.com The rates were equally bad on expedia.com and travelocity and a few other such sites.

Then I went to priceline (even though I dont like bidding and spending time back and forth) and found 4 star hotels for 79 per night. I got JW Marriot (one of the best in DC) for 79 per night and this one was also close to everything, including capitol and white house.

So go to priceline and bid for 4 star Hotels around DC. That way, you can avoid having to get rental cars. If you book accomodation in suburbs, you will need either a rental car (plus parking hassles) or train.

In priceline, it will take about 15 minutes more, but trust me, they have lots and lots of options both for 3 star and 4 star hotels. If you go to expedia.com or hotels.com you will be ripped off with 150 per night for a low quality motel in downtown.

Default Confirm your accomodation

One of my friend had a very bad experience from Priceline. He has a 10 month old baby and he booked thru Priceline for San Antonio seaworld. Saturday night, all the hotels were booked and when he went to the hotel late night, the hotel people told his accomodation is not confirmed.

Priceline didnt even care about the Customer service and said they can cancel the reservation.

With no other way, he had to goto a costly room (double the amount) and stayed that night.

He also said, there were like 3 or 4 families like this stranded that night from Priceline.

So take extra care where you book to confirm it and get confirmed from the hotel itself if possible.

Good luck.

for hotels/car rentals try hotwire.com - and access the site thru ebates.com you will get extra discounts and cashback. All hotwire bookings are non-refundable - so cancellations / changes are not allowed but the hotel choices are really good

Also if DC hotels are not available /expensive try booking near BWI (Baltimore). MTA metro trains run from greenbelt station maryland all the way to Union station DC. Baltimore airfares and hotels are cheap compared to DC.

There is a way around that. Once you confirm the booking on priceline, then call the actual hotel and confirm that they have received the reservation request and you reservation is confirmed.

In rare circumstances, these websites communicate to hotels and hotels do not confirm reservation even though the website says so. I happened to me too when I booked a trip thru expedia in SFO. When I called expedia and told them about the problem and sent me to another hotel and they fixed the problem. But it was a hassle anyways.

So no matter which website you buy your accomodation, check directly with the hotel (the front desk of hotel) over the phone and ask them if your reservation is confirmed. If they confirm it, then nothing can go wrong. Confirmation from priceline.com, expedia.com or Hotels.com alone is not enough.

Default Group rate for a DC hotel

I live in DC and work for a large hotel group, so potentially can coordinate group acoomodations for folks. Can core team contact me to let me know exactly how I can help?

FYI - Sept is high season for DC conventions and I know for a fact that there's a BIG convention going on the same week as the rally, so finding affortable accomodation in downtown DC will be a challenge. 5 Stars are $300-400+ on the market and many meeting rooms are already reserved by functions.

I don't think anybody will be able to get $79 at JW. If most IV folks want to stay in a couple of hotels close to each other and pay reasonable price (100-250), you are probably looking at Pentagon city, arlington, bethesda or other walkable/metro accessible areas. $270 will probably be able to get you guys into a 5 star hotel in the heart of the city. IV can potentially hold a press conference/reception at the hotel as well.

Default Need confirmation

I am (along with my spouse) planning to join. We are thinking flying in on 18th morning and flying out the same day (if thats okay). Just need to confirm if 18th is confirmed for the rally. Is there an official time so that I can arrange my tickets accordingly?

Default Hotwire is best

I booked a hotel thru hotwire recently, and I got a 4 star hotel close to Ohare for $89, when the price list on expedia, discounthotel, etc were almost twice. Hotwire list the hotels available with the number of stars, and the price, but does not show the hotel name. but once you buy it'll display the hotel name. And it was exactly the hotel I wanted (Sheraton Gateway Suites). I initially had doubts, but now I know it works. Recommend you try it. Again as few mentioned it's always wise to call the hotel to reconfirm before leaving.

Default IV Members in DC area to be sponsors for accomodation

there is another thread which mentions about people in the DC area providing shelter. That saves lot of money for the members who are going to attend the rally. Instead of paying the hotels why not have some IV members sponsor in the DC area providing accomodation and get the money diverted to IV funds.
