Sounak, during my last trip, I found the best price in Orbitz and Expedia.

American Airlines was the one airline I knew of that allowed only one checked-in piece of luggage. It now seems Air France has joined that wagon.

From Air France website, it still allow 2 pieces between US and India --

Your trip : United States of America (New York) - India (Mumbai)
In class : Voyageur
Allowance type Number of baggage items
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can travel with 2 baggage items of maximum 23 kg each

What smuggymba was refering to was "carry on" bags. Most airlines officially do not allow more then one carry on but some are lenient .

I got tickets to Calcutta (for last week of Dec) at $1380, but purchased tickets in May.

You may try (I bought mine from Mudra):
Mudra Travels - 614-818-2783 (excellent customer service)
Mitra Travels - 614-818-2783 (good price, but lousy customer service)

I got the best deal from Air India's website: Welcome To AirIndia

The user interface is lousy but the fare was cheapest.

Good Luck!

I recently booked my tickets from Sanfrancisco to Hyd with them and got a deal for $1245, where others were offering $1400+. This can be a good site for comparison, before booking.

I have seen exploretrip earlier but was not comfortable as the site looked a bit shady with no physical address and even the secure HTTP lock was broken. So I was reluctant to share my CC details.
But since we are seeing positive feedback, I think I Will try next time

Thumbs up Flight to Mumbai

I booked my ticket from NewYork to Mumbai for December at $845 with taxes a week back on exploretrip and today the same ticket is available for $1050 plus. The fares are increasing and will keep increase as December close by, so act fast to book your tickets else you will end up paying more to save some.
Good Luck

Default Air Fares

Sometimes you can get good fare online and sometimes thru Agents.

While dealing with NEW agents be carefull, never pay with cash. Just FYI...please see this case.

If you are looking for Tickets in Air-india from Wast coast i think the best site is Flights, Cheap Hotels at MakeMyTrip - India's No 1 Travel Site | Guaranteed Low Cost Air Tickets, Bus, Book Holiday Packages & Rail Tours Online
I purchased tickets from Orbitz Travel: Airline Tickets, Cheap Hotels, Car Rentals, Vacations & Cruises in past for good deals for travel in Feb-2010.
Recently i purchased ticket from agent who is very nice, prompt and gives best rates.

We always look at the price on this website, and then by it from Nagina Travels, in Fremont, CA. They give better rates than this website.
