Default First time travel after GC

We finally got a notice saying that our application for permanent residency has been approved and a card should be there in two to three week.

We were planning to travel to India in the end of this year. I had heard from someone that the first time you go to India after you get a GC, you were supposed to go to the US consulate to get the passports stamped. Is this true. If so, will we not be let in US if we do not get a VISA stamp even though we have GC.

Please advise.

Default Hi....

You need to go to UN consulate and not US consulate in India for visa stamping since you are travelling first time after GC.

For detailed instructions, you can call 1-800-CALL-GOD Press 8 for detailed instructions.

Hi,

You need following documents:

1. Passport + GC
or
2. Passport + GC Stamp in Passport
or
3. Passport + AP

All the best!
