Default Investment options - worried wife

Dear all,

I am sorry to post here. I know this is wrong but don't know where to go to. Could someone please help me and tell me how you can diversify your savings as an NRI for a safe secure future?

Thank you for your support.

Again, my apologies.

Give it me and will keep it safe for you....

It depends on how much you have to invest, whats your future plan, your background and if there is any family property....

Normally you have to have three different kind of investment. 1/3 - cash, 1/3- property and 1/3 in stock or MF. Again 50:50 here and in India if you have plan to go back to India in the future.

Or consider option one.

Default Nice problem to have

Unless you are sitting on a pile of cash, this is really a no brainer....

Like others have suggested :
(1) Give it to me, i will invest it for you..;-)
(2) Depends upon your familial situation and resources you have, both here and in your home country.
(3) If you plan to go back to India ( i am guessing yo are Indian..)

This really is a personal choice that you have to make, with your spouse. By posting such question on open public forums, you have just opened the floodgates to getting made fun of and ridiculed...believe me, it is very tempting...

Default Invest 1 million in US and get GC

If you have enough money, invest 1million in US, and get GC, and buy peace of mind.

Here is what I would do..
1. Pay off your debts..
2. Collect 6 months of paycheck equivalent money in CDs.
3. Buy life insurance.
4. contribute to 401K if employer offers a match.
5. Start children's education fund (4o3b?)
6. Buy some gold may be 5-10% of savings.
7. Invest in US based large cap consistent dividend yielding stocks > 4% yield (example:- PFE & T).
8. Invest in an index fund with exposure to global economies with low expense ratio.
9. Invest in your health (gym membership or equipment etc..)
10. Buy some real estate if you can afford.

Anything left over from this you should be put in equity tranche of a Synthetic CDO-d and hedge the USD-INR fluctuation on the payout of your investments by buying long dated Quanto options maturing at the expiration of your H1 or patience in waiting for GC-which ever comes first.

I am kidding of course...

A. A dude on EB3 with priority date of Aug 2005, looking for a "safe secure" future

Joking aside dude, Pay off your debts, buy gold for the wife ( investing in the wife may be the surest way to have a safe secure future lol)), keep some CDs, keep handy cash ( a tleast 6 months of pay), good life insurance, medical insurance, max out 401K, and then if you still have some left you can dabble in stocks.
