Default PPl who are not taking the BUS and travelling- helpful tips

Hi,

These are different travel/commute options to get to the Rally spot (Washington Monument) from each of the DC Metro Airports. The fare and travel times indicated are approximates. Please refer to the appropriate site for exact details. WMATA has a trip planner that gives you a good idea of how to reach Wash Monument.
Fro those who have any questions or doubt - feel free to ping me.

Arriving in Dulles Airport (IAD):
Option 1:
Leg 1: Take the Washington Flyer bus to Falls Church Metro
Destination: West Falls Church Metro (Orange Line)
Fare: $9.00 OWY or $16.00 Round Trip
Approx Time: 25 Minutes
Schedule: http://www.washfly.com/metro.htm
Note: Washington Flyer has luggage stowing capabilities.

Leg 2: From Falls Church Metro, take Orange Line Metro toward New Carrolton
Destination: McPherson or Federal Triangle
Fare:$1.85
Approx Time: 25 Minutes

Final Destination: Washington Monument is few blocks from McPherson or Federal Triangle Metro stops. Ask anyone for directions and they will point it to you.

Option 2:
Washington Flyer Cab
Destination: Washington Monument
Fare: ~$60.00
Travel Time: ~40 Minutes

Final Destination: Wash Monument

Option 3:
WMATA Bus route # 5A to L’enfant Plaza
Destination: L’enfant Plaza
Fare: $3.00
Travel Time: ~50 Minutes

Final Destination: Washington Monument is a couple of blocks from L’enfant Plaza stop. Ask anyone for directions and they will point it to you.

If you don’t want to walk - optionally you can take a cab from the Metro stop. See my note at the end of this post.

Arriving at Washington National Airport (DCA):
Option 1:
WMATA Metro – Yellow Line towards Ft Totten
Destination: L’enfant Plaza
Fare: $1.45
Travel Time: ~11 minutes

Final Destination: Washington Monument is a couple of blocks from L’enfant Plaza stop. Ask anyone for directions and they will point it to you.

Note: If you don’t want to walk - optionally you can take the Orange or Blue Line metro from L’enfant Plaza to get down at Federal Triangle.

Option 2: WMATA Metro – Blue Line towards Largo Town Center
Destination: McPherson or Federal Triangle
Fare: $1.45
Travel Time: ~16 minutes

Final Destination: Washington Monument is a couple of blocks from McPherson or Federal Triangle stop. Ask anyone for directions and they will point it to you.

Option 3:
Any Cab at the Airport (Red Top, Yellow Top, Capital City Cab etc)
Destination: Washington Monument
Fare: ~$15.00
Travel Time: ~15 Minutes

Final Destination: Wash Monument

Arriving at Baltimore Airport (BWI)
Option 1:
Leg 1: Amtrak Train towards Washington DC. (BWI Shuttle Service takes you to the Amtrak Station from Airport)
Destination: Washington Union Station
Fare: ~$16 – $38 (depending on the train , Acela Express or Regional Service trains)
Travel Time: ~30 Minutes

Leg 2: From Washington Union, take Red Line towards Shady Grove
Destination: Metro Center
Fare: $1.45

Option 2:
Leg 1: Take BWI Express B30 to Green Belt Metro Station

Website:
http://www.bwiairport.com/ground_tra...on_dc__wmata_/

Leg 2: Take Green Line Metro towards Branch Avenue
Destination: Archives Navy Memorial or L’enfant Plaza
Fare: ~2:00
Travel Time: ~20 minutes

Final Destination: Washington Monument is a couple of blocks from Archives Navy Memorial or L’enfant Plaza stop. Ask anyone for directions and they will point it to you.

Note: The distance between the closest Metro stop (Federal Triangle) and Washington Monument is atleast 10 minute walk. Some of the Metro stops indicated here may be little farther too. You may want to use your judgement and situation to see if you want to walk or take a cab. If you decide to take a cab from the Metro to Washington Monument, then the cab fare is standard $6.50.

Thumbs up Rally FAQs

FAQ:

1. What is first amendment, does it apply to me? I'm on H1,H4,EAD,
applied for 485 etc..

Answer: The right to gather peacefully is guaranteed by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Constitutional rights of an individual are applicable to everyone, including foriegn nationals.

2. Will I get arrested/deported for participating in the rally?
Answer. No, participating in rally with proper permits from city police and other authorities is legal. You cannot be arrested or deported for simply participating in the rally.

3. Will it impact my current Non immigrant status or
future green card application?

Answer. No, exercising your civil rights does not impact your non-immigrant status or future green card petition. There are certain procedures and processes for rejecting or denying petitions, it is not done on whims and moods of agencies or USCIS employees. There is a process driven by federal regulations and rejections and denials are backed up by reasons described in federal regulations and the laws. Participating in rallies, meeting with your lawmakers, exercising your civic duties and enjoying your civil rights granted by the constitution are not grounds for denials or rejection of petitions or any other adverse action on immigration petition.

4. Can employer take action for participating in the rally? Do we have
any obligation to inform the employer if I particpate by taking a day off?

Answer. No, an employer cannot simply take action for exercising your constitutional right granted by the first amendment. Whether you inform your employer about what you would be doing with your vacation/day-off is up to you and your relationship with your employer. Usually employers never care what the employee does with his/her time off from work, as long as those activities are legal.

5. What kind of identification do I need to carry?
Will Driver's license be enough?
Answer. Yes, driver's license of a State issued ID is enough for ID purposes.

6. Is it ok to respond if people who do not agree
with IV show up in the rally and throw questions at the participants,
Will the cops intervene if there is only verbal exchange?

Answer. It is not possible for our opponents to show up in large numbers as they would need a permit from DC metro for that. DC metro will not issue a permit to an opposing group/organization on the same day. If individuals on side-walks or gathering ask rhetorical questions or pass comments ignore them. If it bothers you or the crowd, get in touch with one of the rally volunteers and they will contact police to remove the hecklers from the crowd. This is not a big issue and one should not be worried about it as Immigration Voice has handled a rally in San Jose before and such issues were minimal and well-handled.
