Dear Friends,

The Smithsonian Institution (http://www.si.edu/) has a new Digital Exhibit that explores Immigration Stories Through H-1B Visas.

More details here (http://www.nbcnews.com/news/asian-america/new-smithsonian-digital-exhibit-explores-immigration-stories-through-h-1b-n468221).

From the article:
The Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center is also encouraging people to share their H-1B stories using the hashtag #MyH1Bstory.

Please tweet your stories using the #MyH1Bstory hashtag and include @SmithsonianAPA in your tweets. Please be sure to mention direct and indirect issues with H1-B visa such as:

The Green Card Backlog
The relative difficulty to change jobs on H1-B
The abuses H1-B workers suffer from.
How the current state of the H1-B visa's is undercutting job opportunities for Americans in their own country.

For the duration of this week, I suggest doing the following:

Every day send out atleast 5 #MyH1Bstory tweets
Atleast once a day (preferably more), search twitter for the #MyH1Bstory hashtag, Retweet and favorite all tweets that resonate with you.

This battle we find our selves in is multi-faceted and the PR battle is a huge part of it. So please join in.

Guys do NOT EVER use the work "illegal" when describing the undocumented.

If you made the mistake of tweeting this, please clean it up.

i was about to media link aman youtube video .. glad that you are putting it there. Some clips like that will capture the frustration that has been allowed to brew in by allowing to create such a huge green card backlog. I might be wrong but the initial 1965 laws did not have any country specific limits .. all that seem to have crept in later on with no after thought about how to manage a huge backlog.

Employee Tenure Summary (http://www.bls.gov/news.release/tenure.nr0.htm)

"The median number of years that wage and salary workers had been with their current
employer was 4.6 years in January 2014, unchanged from January 2012, the U.S. Bureau
of Labor Statistics reported today"

we are stuck for a decade

Conrag Ng, the director of Smithsonian (and Obama's BIL?) has gone through the tweets himself. So this has caught their attention. :)

Thanks sengs for pointing that out ..

I did not notice but Ng also liked my tweet:

Konrad Ng liked a Tweet you were mentioned in
22h: No problem, @shoo85452159! It's such an important story, as all of the messages we've seen on #myH1Bstory today have shown.

I am kinda becoming famous but need more tweets and likes to all my tweets .. have also posted on all facebook chapters.

It is bummer that despite such a huge (million+) strong h1b pool with a lot on gc line, people are so slow and non respondent. Very apathetic and indifferent. Exactly same as India. And even after gc or citizenship and spending 25 yrs here, still same apathy - living in some desolate nbd, going to same grocery chain and some off "india" events. There are 3 million+ indian americans and yet only few ever come fwd. But the big strong h1b pool is also doing nothing. Everyone has pc and iphone and what not but still wont come on fb or twitter or any social media campaigns. Most ppl only view things and lurk around rather than doing any concrete actions, actively volunteering on IV. Easy to do abstract things, pray god, live thru motions and get back to the restive state of mind than actually do something real and see change happen. 1% of the enthu shown in going to movies and parks are shown in this initiative will bring about real change. A like on some dumbass fb, twitter, whatsapp articles images will get huge viral support among desi community but talk about h1 or gc and they become very shy and withdrawn. It is as if they want iH1B and iGC but no efforts put on that. Anyways, thats for my daily rant. I will get back to tweeting. I might graduate from Grandpa level twitterati to strapping teen level :)

Here is another worthwhile tweet: https://twitter.com/sadhaksengupta/status/669330966935113728

Also, if you haven't already, please read the district advocacy guide (http://bitly.com/iv-advocacy-guide) and then start planning on meeting your Rep and/or doing the petition drive.

A more complete listing of the big picture is on this FB post (https://www.facebook.com/notes/immigration-voice/constituent-action-what-can-you-do-to-help-hr213-move/1035826459816911).

Need all hands on deck for this. The per-country cap on EB Green Cards is the root cause of this situation - we need to stay laser focused on it or the problem will fester.

Check this out, there's pictures of handcuffs: https://twitter.com/ash__v/status/670744235465830400

If we all post pictures of our hands in handcuffs, perhaps this thing will go viral and the media will take notice.

Yeah. I have had that problem for a while where the todays forum posts do not show up in various browsers across os .. we can give technical help to resolve this issue .. might be something small .. in teh mean time, i go to Immigration Voice - Top 15 Stats (http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/misc.php?do=cybstats) to view the messages ..
tweets seems to have been dead and no one is retweeting anymore .. in true desi fashion first few days halla followed by staring into the abyss.
