Dear Friends,

During the last few months, we have made significant strides in our efforts to advocate for more fair immigration system. Soon we expect the Administration to announce the Report i.e. details of the Administrative fixes to the high skilled immigration system. These fixes will be part of Presidentís Executive Action on Immigration, which we shared in our newsletter dated November 19, 2014 (http://goo.gl/uuajoW). We sincerely thank the Obama Administration for the fixes that will provide temporary relief to those of us stuck in green card backlogs. However, we need Congress to live up to its promise to create a fair process with more permanent fixes to the overall system.

That is why we must continue to focus on the fix for the root cause of decades long green card backlogs i.e. Elimination of Per-Country limits on Employment-Based Green Cards. The solution is - House bill H.R. 213 (https://goo.gl/jfMhCP) which eliminates the artificial and unfair per-country limits on EB green cards so no one in the system gets preferential treatment, and to reflect a cherished American value of "first come first serve". For many of us, until H.R. 213 is passed, our status will continue to be that of an "alien" for painfully long periods of time.

To create awareness for our issues and to gather more congressional support for H.R. 213, we are organizing another Advocacy Event (https://goo.gl/9bnzev) in Washington D.C. We want your help to speak with your Member of Congress to cosponsor H.R.213 so the bill could be brought up for vote on the House floor. If you live, work, or study in a congressional district with a Representative who has not yet cosponsored H.R. 213 (https://goo.gl/TkSBxg), please sign up for this Advocacy effort and come to this event. Encourage your friends to sign up as well. If your Representative is already a co-sponsor of the bill, join us in D.C. all the same. Every voice counts!

This three (3) day event kicks off with Sunday (June 14th) devoted to sharing important background information on the current political scenario and mandatory training on how best to present our case in congressional meetings scheduled for Monday (June 15th) and Tuesday (June 16th). Without this training, it will be almost unreasonable to expect you to be an effective agent of change when advocating for H.R. 213. This is a unique opportunity and experience to participate in the democratic process. We request you to please finalize your travel plans and register for the Advocacy event (http://register.ImmigrationVoice.org) at the earliest so we could share the logistics and other pertinent information with you.

You can also support your cause by contributing (http://donations.ImmigrationVoice.org) to organize the event. Regardless of the amount of your contribution, we will be grateful for your support.

This is a critical time as Congress will start to consider bills in the 2nd half of this year. Now is the best time to ask for vote on H.R. 213 on the House floor. The previous advocacy event in February 2015 helped to secure 22 additional Members of Congress to co-sponsor H.R. 213. Our aim with this advocacy event is to help create more awareness for this bill so we could get enough Members of Congress to co-sponsor H.R. 213 so the bill could be brought up for a vote on the full House floor. No one else is going to fight for our cause. You, WE, have to do it ourselves. This battle is long and tough, but as they say - as the going gets tough, the tough get going.

The most American thing to do is to speak up when you see something wrong. So join us in Washington D.C. on June 14th, 15th and 16th to seek justice and to ask for fairness.

It's time to put this second class treatment to a final end.

HR.213 will do it! Join us in DC so we can end this together!

If you are thinking that you won't come because someone else will, nothing will happen.

Good work. Although, we want people to come in for advocacy, if you just can not, at least donate.

Is it a good idea to talk to neighboring district representative office (NC-13)? I don't see our district (NC-4) representative as Co-Sponsor either so there is an opportunity. Not sure if they agree for support or best case promise to co-sponsor. Meeting offices i believe at least will help their opinions evolve positive on support.

Speaking with a neighboring district is an excellent idea! In fact our members do it all the time.

Will you be coming to the DC event?

If not, and you think you could use some pointers on how to best get this done, PM your information to me and we can have a short conversation.

Nice. I have already registered for the DC event. Let me talk to others from NC IV chapter too on this (as I believe some of the leaders are very popular and rising stars in their parties).

We have wasted enough time on information, tracking and analysis sites (on immigration) .....in current situation (of visa allocation and numbers) math doesn't work (in our favor). Thus, we need to have some influencing action.

Time and efforts (almost over a decade) in waiting, speculations and analyzing visa bulletin(combine with anxiety) if channelized correctly and was to be used by NASA correctly (or SpaceX or any organization), it would have resulted in some successful space program for sure.

Cheers!

If you are in NC-13 district then you should also speak with Representative Tom Brady of North Carolina's 14th district. I heard he is a good guy. He could cosponsor H.R.213. He gets his campaign money from Motch brothers. So you can even speak with Motch brothers and they can get him to cosponsor H.R.213 :D

For folks sitting on the sidelines and waiting for something to happen, I am not sure what you are waiting for. This will be my 5th Advocacy event and I am just as excited as I was the first time. It has been a life changing experience for me and I am sure it will be for you as well.

Go IV!

Hello All,
I registered for the DC event yesterday. However, I have not received any confirmation or acknowledgement email detailing the next steps. Since this is my first time going to an advocacy event, I just want to make sure that I am registered for the event. If not, I'd be happy to resubmit. Can someone please direct me to the appropriate resource or course of action..?

Thanks

We have you registered. You will start receiving emails about logistics around 2 weeks before the event.

In general, if you see the confirmation page on Google docs, you are good to go.

Thank you for stepping forward.

Hello All,

After sitting on the sidelines for almost a year, I am really keen on coming out and supporting the fantastic efforts of IV members/volunteers. I am very much interested in attending the advocacy in DC next month. However, given that I have a young family, I am not sure I will be able to show up for sure. Is it of to register for the event now and de-register if things do not work out on the family front close to the event date? Is there another event planned in the near future?

Please keep in mind that we are planning north of 400 meetings which requires us to do a lot of planning.

If you are serious about attending and will only cancel in an absolute emergency, please go ahead and register.

Look forward to seeing you in DC.

Rupen\Admins, Is IV panning to join in the discussion, as panel or as member audience? I am afraid this discussion will be narrowed down to H1B and we, folks in the backlog will be left out of the discussion as always. Please opine.

First of all thanks for deciding to come. It will be a great b experience. Most people come on Sunday however you can come on Saturday evening if you are getting better flight deal or if you are local in which case you can help set up things for next day. You will soon start seeing communication on google group. Do not worry, you will get all required information

Ok. I will try booking my tickets on Megabus from Pittsburgh PA to arrive late Saturday night then. The morning bus does not come in till 1 PM Sunday.

The bus arrival will be in Union Station. Do you know the location of the hotel (rooms blocked by IV) yet? You can PM me if that info is not meant for public or for some other reasons. Thank you guys..

We are closing registration at 4PM EST tomorrow.

This is your last chance to sign up for a once in a lifetime experience for you to fight for your rights.

If you are on the fence, now is the time to commit.

Hi hil3182,
I have recently created an account in IV and have never attended any IV events in the past.
I feel IV is doing a great job fighting for the rights of legal community and want to attend this time. However, because of my prior commitments, it looks unlikely. I will not be in a position to be there on 15th and 16th for sure but want to at least try to be there on 14th. I am trying to rope in another friend who too cannot be there on 15th and 16th.
Considering that we can be there on 14th only at best, not sure if I can be of any help to the cause? I do not know the detailed agenda of 14th plus want to avoid registering and then potentially cancelling it later so would appreciate your thoughts on it.

There really is no point coming for just the 14th.

The whole point of coming on the 14th is to "train" you for meetings on the 15th and 16th.
