First the bill goes to committee, then the house and then the senate. If it passes Senate, Mr. Obama would definitely sign it into law.

Completed all action items.

I am sure everybody is aware of this but I'd like to reiterate that the most important of all action items is the one for making calls. And when you call, think that you are calling on your own behalf, and your own cause because we are Immigration Voice and Immigration Voice is us. We owe it to ourselves to highlight our problems and concerns.

All the best.

I called all the Democrats offices and I heard from couple of people that they are supporting the bill.. :-) I cant reveal the names of the representatives on this public forum - please PM me and I will reply back. I am making it a point to ask the representatives opinion on this bill when I call them.

I dont know whether asking the representatives their opinion is right or wrong but I am doing it.. :-) many of them are still evaluating the bill (most of the democrats)

Will call the Repubs in the noon..

I made 8 calls during lunch time. Wanted to do more but could not. However I am planning to go out of our office building again at 2 p.m. and make more calls. I talked with somebody on all the calls. Nowhere did I get voicemail. One Repub. informed “leaning towards support”. One Dem took my details and would call back once the congressman takes position on the bill. Another Dem told me that they are aware of this bill and its contents. No position yet. Others just took the message.
However I was disappointed when one office told me that they have received a “couple of calls”. IV members should wake up and spent a few minutes of their precious time in making these calls. I will fill the feedback form after completing as many calls as possible.

Yes, every single call is noted down. The staffers who handle calls note down how many for and against calls they received for each bill and then use the following to tally up how much support a bill approximately has:
Each email is counted as 100 supporters
Each call is counted as 1000 supporters
Each in person visit is counted as 10000 supporters
So please everyone keep up with the calls and emails.

Completed all action items including feedback.

Fellow IV members,

Thanks to all the members who have already called. After you finish the calls, please ensure to provide feedback to IV through the feedback form. This is very important for further advocacy.

If you have not called yet, please do so as soon as possible. The bill is coming up for markup soon and we need to call as much as possible.

It is very simple. Do not be afraid. As soon as you mention IV and the bill number, most offices will recognize what you are calling about. It is a very simple process. Each call takes less than 20 to 30 seconds. So do not hesitate about this. This is the final chance for us in the next 2 years. A lot of effort has already gone into this and now IV needs our help to make this a reality.

Please complete all the action items as soon as possible. This is very important. Also pass this on to your friends and get them to participate. If each of us call and get two other friends to call, imagine the impact we will have on this issue.

Please do not stay silent. If you have not yet completed the action items, please do so as soon as possible. This is for you and your family.

Be active. Be free.

Guys, I've made a bunch of phone calls today. I started to get voice mails so I'll make the remaining 8 calls or so tomorrow. I hope that isn't too late.

I wanted to raise a point (respectfully, of course): let's make sure our interaction with the staffers is absolutely professional. We should talk to them like we talk to clients when we do business. I think it's important to have meaningful conversations, as opposed to "going through the motions". Again, I'm not implying that people aren't doing this: I'm simply pointing out that (I believe) it's very important to do so.

I called in to the offices of about 10 congressmen / women offices just now. The staffers are pretty friendly though in a bit of a rush. I wasn't able to convey the whole message as it is but I made sure they got the jist of it.

Its very simple guys, just call them and ask for support on HR 3012. Also do it fast guys I didn't realize the offices were in Washington DC and its about time they are all going home.

Will continue to call ofther offices in my rest break or early tomorrow.

Given the rush staffers were in today, I was able to sneak in only a couple of lines.

This is what I said -

Good Morning - My name is XX and I'm a grassroots leader at IV and calling from Houston, TX. I was calling in regards to HR 3012 - is it possible to talk to an immigration staffer at this time.

Depending on their response, which mostly was that the staffer is not in or is busy - you say - I want to request support from Congressman XXX on HR 3012.

Some staffers say thanks you and put down the phone but if they are listening - you tell them about what this bill does - remove country limit and doesn't increase any GC numbers and boosts economy.

I mentioned to one of the staffers who was willing to listen and was promoting conversation that I would buy a house the next day after I get a GC and she was really impressed and said it's a really good point and something she will mention to the Congressman. It just came up but is not required.

At the end, say thanks for your time and have a nice day. 20 seconds is all it takes.

Just make sure you know whether it's a congressman or woman. I was confused in one whose name was Mel - I didn't do my homework as Mel can be a man or woman (short for Melanie). If yo

The grass-roots action items listed below are extremely critical and will supplement IV advocacy efforts for HR-3012 that have been going on for a considerable amount of time. As already mentioned, a group of select Immigration Voice members recently attended more than 160 meetings with key members of Congress. Other advocacy efforts are ongoing at the moment. Please participate in the grass-roots efforts below so that we can do our best to get H.R 3012 passed by Congress. This is our only chance.

I understand that many of us completed all the 3 tasks (including calling lawmakers). However, we should not just stop there. Spread the word. forward to your friends and educate them the importance of the bill. This bill especially helps EB3 I/C who suffer from backlogs. So, it is important to spread as many EB3 people as possible. And follow up with by making phone calls until they call lawmakers urge their support. Educate EB3 guys that this bill helps them. Hence, request them to spend about 30min to call lawmakers.

There is absolutely nothing to be hesitant to call the reps offices. A staff member picks up the phone.

When they say hello, just say "Hi my name is ..... I am a member of Immigration voice. I am calling regarding the bill HR 3012, which deals with high skilled immigration. I am calling to request congressman's/woman's support for this bill".

That's it.

They might ask you simple questions like:
Please repeat and spell your name. What is your state/city/zip code? Did you call your congressional rep? (The answer is yes). Please give me your full address. (You can safely give your address and phone number to congressional rep.)

uscis_lover

Anybody who is stuck in this immigration mess and does not call lawmakers and contribute $$$ to this cause does not deserve to get a GC in my opinion. Everyone needs to contribute and help the cause - If you do not help yourselves then you shouldnt complain about your issues

So Everyone that hasnt yet contributed - Get off your butts and contribute.

The bill 3012 has been carefully vetted by multiple stakeholders. You can read IV's stated goals. Its bringing fairness to immigration system and remove backlogs. Also note this is not end all game. But is a very nessasary step in right direction at this moment of time.

Thank you everyone for your participation. Please continue with the calls and spread the word. We are getting good feedback and the calls are working. Some of the offices which initially started with "not sure" about their support have told recent callers that they "will support" the bill. Also some offices have notified IV that they appreciate the thank you calls.

Please note this is how total support for a bill is estimated. Every single call is noted down. The staffers who handle calls note down how many for and against calls they received for each bill and then use the following to tally up how much support a bill approximately has:
Each email is counted as 100 supporters
Each call is counted as 1000 supporters
Each in person visit is counted as 10000 supporters

We have to completely drown out calls against the bill by the opposition. So those you haven't called yet, please do so today and tomorrow. And those you have already called, please call again if you have time and also spread the word.

Guys do not post your own action items. Please follow what is described in the first post of the thread. Do not post links to any online petition website and waste your time and other members time. We have explained many times on this forum that this online petition is a waste of time. These for profit online petitions may very well be taking your email address and details and using it for marketing. We will be strict with online petition link posted on this forum. Unless there is an organization behind emails and phone calls even phone calls and emails do not really make enough impact. One needs a strong organization leading the issue and meeting lawmakers in person, spending resources , talking to other stakeholders, doing advocacy meetings and a whole lot of other things. Advocacy is far more than signing online petitions. So please Help us with the action items rather than creating your own or asking why something is not included and why something is included. It has been a long road till here and this has been decided after lot of discussions. Donor members already know about it and active members who have been participating in advocacy work with us already know how things work. So please let us all not waste time on discussions but rather put it into action items. Time is short and we want thousands of calls and emails going in to these offices from immigration voice members. Members must mention they are members of immigration voice when they call. Do not stray away from the message we have given. Just calling and saying something that is not part of the script will not help.

We have a real chance this time and need everyone to pitch in. If you have made calls once or yesterday, make them again. We need to jam the phone lines and drown any opposition to the bill or any office that is not yet decided should decide to vote yes due to thousands of calls coming

Those that have not yet contributed. Please contribute urgently. We need support urgently. There is a lot needed to support the bill. Phone calls and emails generate awareness and show strength. However the real force that drives is the advocacy work organizations do on the ground. This is the time to show your support and say you want this bill passed. So please contribute generously and urgently. The road is not easy and we need each and every member from the IV membership to pitch in.

Does any one else have a list of undecided reps?

people are calling against this bill also. It is up to you to beat them and get this done. Ask your friends to call right away.

I am not sure what these people against know about this bill. Everyone thinks if it is immigration it is not good. It is not giving out anything extra no more visas. It is just bringing fairness into system. First come first serve. I am not sure what they get when they call against this bill.

There are well funded groups (I do not want to name names but you know google) that do oppose LEGAL immigration. These groups have deeper pockets and much more support from middle America and am sure they are doing their best to kill this bill.

Yes, all the calls have been helping tremendously. We have received feedback from some offices that they appreciate the thanks from the callers. And some others have changed their positions from not sure to supporting the bill. Almost everyone has noted that they are taking their constituents voice into account. Some offices went from supporting the bill to agreeing to cosponsor the bill. Some are still undecided and not sure.
We have to continue this till the bill is voted as they also receive calls from the opposition. We have to drown out any opposition to this bill by our overwhelming calls/letters etc. IV will post additional action items as needed. Thanks a lot for your participation and keep up with the advocacy.

House judiciary commitee adjourned for today. They are in recess all next week. They might come back on 10/24/2011( But the date has not been finalized yet). They were talking about guns all day, didn't find time to talk about immigration.

Lets not give up hope, let the calls keep going through.

I hope nobody expected too much too fast. These things take time and all we have to hope is that nothing more pressing gets dumped on top of the list. Chill out with some bear during the weekend and dont ever think that the work is wasted......

Does any one know how many bills was discussed today?

What is the standard procedure, when the committee does not have enough time to discuss all planned bills? They just abandon the pending bills? Can they do that?

I think what happened in 2008 was because of the fact that the term of the congress was ending.

THOSE WHO ARE NOT YET DONORS I WOULD URGE EACH AND EVRYONE TO BECOME RECURING CONTRIBUTORS - this way you would be able to help yourself by being well informed about where the bill is in the process and be able to participate in educated, informed action items instead of knee jerk actions at the last minute

Becoming a donor member with recurring contribution - will also help avoid distracting questions when we are in overdrive mode like :
- Why are we supporting bill XXX and not bill xxx?
- Should I call Congressmen or Senators?
- What are the details of the bill?
-What will happen when the bill passes the committee ?
- Why don't we seek support of this organization / individual or that org or inidividual?

They were discussing guns all day. Whether state law should supersede federal law and vice versa. What happens when person having a concealed gun travels across the state line. Should we have common federal law or state law should supersede.

Is this from the transcript or from the webcast? The transcript is from yesterdays where they were discussing the guns issue.

Posted the email letter to congressman/women on following on - H.R.3012: Fairness for High-Skilled Immigrants Act - U.S. Congress - OpenCongress (http://www.opencongress.org/bill/112-h3012/show)

I am writing as your constituent in the 48th Congressional district of California. I am XXX, a member of Immigration Voice - a grass-roots group. I would like you to support H.R - 3012 - Fairness for High-Skilled Immigrants Act. The bill fosters job growth and innovation by removing per-country limits for high-skilled applicants in the employment-based green card system.

I am currently working with XXX and have a engineering degree. In my case I am currently looking at wait times of anywhere between 10 to 30 years to get my green card. I know I have what it takes to start my own company and be more productive to the socity as whole, but due to the limitation of green card, I am unable to do so.

There are around 70,000 legal and highly skilled immigrants who are in similar situation as mine. Many of us have the necessary funds to become first time homeowners, but due to uncertainty and long time waits are unable to make the huge commitment.

I am counting on your support for H.R 3012.

Appreciate your time for going through the reading the email.
