My mother has been seeing a psychiatrist in India for depression for the past 6 months, but her condition has not improved completely. And so I am planning to take her to see a psychiatrist here in the US for a second opinion, when my folks visit in July-Aug.

Does anybody know of any insurance that would cover such a pre-existing condition? I doubt that there is any such insurance available, but I thought I would still check.

Otherwise I will just have to pay the full doctor fees.....

Thanks!

I have purchased this health insurance for my father

http://www..org/

that covers pre-existing condition.
However it will not help you for one or two doctors visits as deductible is very high $1000 or $5000 depending on which plan you select.

I just purchased this if in case of bigger medical emergency.

My father generally visits one or two time doctor here in USA, for which I have been paying full fees from my pocket.

I am going off the topic but may I suggest one thing to you?

Do not take your mom to a Psychiatrist in US. If you did not see the new documentary "Dead Wrong" by CCHR, I suggest you do so promptly.

The word "Psychiatry" itself is derived from the word "psyche" that means mind or in some books, souls. The psychiatrists use medicines (chemicals) to control neurosis to bring a change of condition in mind which results in severe side-effects in the body. It is my observation.

I would suggest a few things for your mom:
- When she is around, do not create any antagonistic situation. She should feel secure and calm.
- Give her good diet. For instance, a good dosage of B-Complex and Vitamins have been known to check depression in many cases. Check out the vitamin "Cataplex B" or "Cataplex G" made by Standard Process. Do google. You can buy it on Amazon too. It is organic and made from whole-foods.
- Increase her interest level to something that will interest her. An empty mind is a devil's mind, specially for people suffering from Depression.

Do not fall for Psychiatry, my friend. It is a pseudo-science that has never resulted in making a patient more intelligent and self-dependent to solve one's problems in life. More psychiatry just creates more dependability on drugs (medicines).
