IV members from California deserve a huge round of applause for flying in from the west coast for the rally! For most who did, this means at least 2 days off - some took 3-4 days off, and were present in DC from Saturday/Sunday.

The Orange County Register (http://morejazzbythebay.wordpress.com/2007/09/19/orange-county-register/) says: Over 60 marchers flew in from California, and several came from Orange County for the event.

Hats off to the activist Californians, who led with the historic rally in San Jose that contributed to the favorable outcome of the July visa bulletin fiasco, and being present in D.C. in such large numbers!

Kudos to the Washingtonians who were present as well from the Pacific Northwest! (Anyone from Oregon??)

I bow to all the Californian IV members who came out to the rally and did a great job.. You guys are great.. We NJ members have a lot to learn from you..

You made me feel that I should been then there for all 4 days..

I am looking for Californian IV member who was standing besides me on the Capitol Hill during all speeches and who was talking about how they met Sheila Murthy and other lawmakers the previous night. This IV member was also talking the 2$ fee for FBI namecheck. I wanted to know more about the experiences they had with lawmakers. Just in case if you are reading this send me a private message.

A very fruitful , magnanimous and extremely well organised EVENT!! We are PROUD of you IV members and most importantly the CORE MEMBERS!!!
I have not been a very active member though I attended one Chapter meeting and did participate the whole time at the rally.
I was totally impressed with many of the fellow participants who flew down / Rode down by bus for this and had to take 2/3 days off ..
The efforts of the members who had to prepare banners, arrange meetings, coordinate travel arrangements, talk to lawmakers/congressmen..prepare speeches, prepare write-ups.. make arrangements for the police, restrooms, water etcc.. this goes on and on... is AMAZING (it is a very mild word I am using here!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Truly many states participated in this BUT the very state DC , the neighbouring states MD, NJ, NY, DE
I think only a handful would have joined in from these states .. we could really count them!!
If I am not wrong , If we pull medical records (exams taken during the 485 process..) I think we will get nos anywhere from 25000 to 50000 in MD alone and if thats again pulled in VA it would come to 100000+ .. ditto for DC
This is definitely PATHETIC!! BE Shameful guys for not being part of the struggle thats going to benefit you, YES YOU!!!!!
WHAT HAPPENED GUYSSS???????
DC???
VIRGINIA???
MARYLAND???
DELEWARE???
WE SHOULD BE ASHAMED !!! WE HAD SUCH A BIG OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE AND MAKE IT EVEN GRANDER..
Though the 2000+ score of people is huge but considreing the 200000+ living in DC/MD/VA/DE , this could have been lot more better!!

I HAVE ONE SUGGESTION TO MAKE. If any of the members could cleanly list all the activities that took their time and energy into this big effort would be helpful to other DUMB, DISINTERESTED people to know what they have missed and what they can do in future to help themselves!
Just list down all the activities and how they were delegated to people (how many) and how much time it took to organise this.
We can then put it in the home page and let everyone know this is not a small organisation and this is for everyone to help.
We should do one more rally soon again in DC and pull in more people this time.. !!
But all of you volunteers and core members .. YOU ARE VERY DETERMINED & FOCUSED!! THIS RALLY WILL ALWAYS BE REMMEMBERED!!!
Thanks

So, what u r trying to imply here is...out of 200,000 highly skilled workers in the DC/MD/VA/DE areas, only a few (say 100-200) are smart and the rest are dumb? :D Listen to urself dude...How dumb cud u be to make such a statement??? If the remaining 199000 shout back at u, u will never speak again. One shud learn to respect one's decision(s). Different points of views and different perspectives. Dont be narrow minded and think everybody MUST do what U are doing.

As you said respect other for what they think.
So you should follow your own words and respect what he thinks of the remaining 19900 highly skilled people from the MD, VA, DC area.

I hope you will atleast stick with your own words.

The rest of us (199000) respected ur views and DID NOT call u guys "DUMB" when u went to the rally. There r two things...Respect and Agree. We respected ur view but did not agree with it and hence didn't participate. We never called anybody DUMB when they went to the rally. And WE expect the same from u. Give respect and take respect. Its as simple as that.

Not sure what makes you think you are a good specimen for the rest of 199000 - it is not true that the other 199000 did not attend the rally because they disagree with what IV has done.

Finally - if you cant applaud what others are doing for you then.... at least you can do is stay quite.

it's true that there are many views. some worthwhile, others not. many people had genuine reasons not to participate. so be it. others are simply not willing to do anything. so here...all respect for you and your viewpoint...which btw we do not know. so no point writing in loud angry letters without explaining yourself. if you have such strong ideas...let's hear them. are you a volunteer? NO or so says your profile. let us know what else you have bothered to do so far...maybe you will find a lot of respect after all..assuming you do have something to show. as for not calling people "dumb" speak for yourself, there are plenty of examples of rude and intemperate replies given to rally volunteers who made phone calls or offered encouragement on the forum. those who spent their time calling other members (we can only call if you supply your phone number) were treated like salesman..as if there was personal profit involved. those who approached friends, colleagues and family lost relationships because they were treated as "dumb" for talking about a rally. people who called their iv friends 5 times a day during the july fiasco for updates, suddenly become unavailable to talk.
there are many people on these forums who think they are too good for a rally, their money and time is too precious to spend on their own cause or who simply don't care about anything but personal comfort. so please cut the crap about what was said about rally goers.
feel free to have a view...i agree heartily that everyone should be civil...and yes...do let us know what that view is...we have no interest in annonymous people with nebulous "i have my views' comments.

One of the most satisfying experiences of my life. You know, right? after you slog late hours for days and then you achieve something. That kind of feeling.

For me the the rally was a great success because:
- I grew as a person. The first hand exposure to lawmaker's office was amazing.
- I experienced the feeling that only those people who have courage to stand up and speak for what the believe in get when the staffer after staffer agreed to our issues. Mind you, I don't want to sound simplistic, so for now let me just dwell on the human and personal part of the rally.
-There are thousands of anecdotes that I could share. My best is the look of shock on one of the IV member's face when I asked him to escort one of the lawmakers who attended the Monday evening reception dinner. We couldn't believe that we see him on C-Span and he is standing next to us and supporting our cause.
- Can you imagine the feeling when a lawmakers says I know about you guys. You are doing a good job. This shows we are visible in the Hill.
- I felt great when I saw the confidence on the smiling faces of IV members when they came out of lawmakers meetings. For those who missed this historic opportunity, I can't even begin to explain the change in mindset from the initial apprehension about visiting a lawmaker's office to, "Why do I only have three meetings set up, I want to fill in for others IV members who might not have shown up due to various reasons"

For those demanding immediate results when they themselves might not have showed up at the rally the answer is, we will get our green cards eventualy. There is absolutely no doubt about that in my mind but these experiences and memories will be cherished for a long time. This is also important to me. This new "experience capital" which was initially present among just the core members has trickled down to other members, we are growing in strength and reach our goal soon.

I am glad I went for three days. I wish I could stay longer.

I am proud of IV and the highly dedicated California members who are like the motivational engine of this grassroot organization.

Yes, California IV rocks!!! The San Jose rally was a success and we had such little time to plan. Imagine a well-orchestrated planned well in advance rally at Silicon Valley, we'd have tens of thousands, also Seattle area would send many people there

As disappointed as we are reg. the poor turnout of VA/MD/DE/NY/NJ, there's no point bashing up people. May be there are people out there who are willing to volunteer/contribute and essentially help themselves. I was unaware of IV until recently and I felt it would be totally worth the effort for me to attend the rally. I just make a small token contribution of $100 as well. But all of this makes me think that there are surely other people out there who realise they are in for a loooooooooong loooooooong wait until some law is passed. We should focus on making people aware of IV and its agenda.

Simmer down chaps. Please remember my words from the rally (if you heard them through the double bull horn, and with a voice that was on the verge of being lost!). React with dignity to those that are trying to provoke you, there's no need for retaliation. Take a deep breathe and politely state your case :)

Paskal - it's not entirley true. I said a secret "hell no" to myself when asked to get to a meeting at 7.30am after having about 3 hours sleep :)

In truth, the only reason Drona and I made it to some of the early task stuff was when gsc999 and jazzbythebay (I think it was him - having difficulty with faces and names versus iv handles) either did prank room service calls to our room, or unplanned "wake up calls"...

In all reality, I certainly don't need for any thanks. We came to get fully behind a cause to support it, whatever that took. Our time in DC was short, so we needed to work every precious moment we had there.

Unfortunately ArunAntonio is feeling realy sad that he couldn't attend, but his wife is expecting any day now! But, Arun, don't worry, I have a bunch of fresh ideas that will keep us all busy :)

It is indeed a great feeling to be part of this rally. As gsc999 mentioned first hand exposure to lawmaker's office was amazing and the chance to explain our issues to lawmaker's staff's and making them understand our issues was really fulfilling.

DC rally is another feather in the cap for CA IV members, more so for fellow IV members from CA, who were big contingent in the rally.

Ther are tons of people from California to thank, Franklin and Drona deserve special thanks. They are superwomen of California IV chapter. It would be an understatement that without their effort there would be no lawmaker event.

Infact, karma caught up with me when me and Jazz walked into the wrong hotel room presuming it was you and Drona :D. We knocked and said we were " Room service," we wanted to surprise you but in turn got surprised when some strange women opened the door and we apologized and left.

I had to miss this event inspite of booking my tickets. My sister in law went into labor 3 weeks early thursday night and I cancelled my trip to be around. I should have flewn in Monday afternoon. My head didn't think right at that time but now I know. I sent an email to drona but I wonder if she got to it. I am sorry folks. I sponsored part of another IV members ticket too so atleast I did something
