09-13-2007, 11:20 AM
Washington DC has declared Sept 18 as car-free day encouraging commuters to leave car at home. For details see link below:

This suggests that on Tuesday car traffic in DC area may be less than normal, and public parking may be relatively easier to find. Normal daily parking is $12 to $16 within 1/2 mile of Washington Monument (familiar vertical landmark). Never-the-less, if possible, Metro rail is the hassle-free choice.

Those who are planning to park cars at meto station, please reach the station early in the morning. The parking at metro station will get filled up quickly.

Also keep the details of nearest park and ride lot, so that if the parking at the station is full, then you can park at park and ride lots

Those planning to park at Metro Stations, note that at most stations parking is not free. Where paid, it is accessible only through SmarTrip card (a prepaid card used by regular commuters). Credit cards or any other payment methods are not accepted at these automated parking lots.

Further, as such, these lots get filled up by 8am. Sep 18 being a car-free day in DC, more cars are likely to get at these parking lots, filling them even earlier.
