Dear members,

It is time now to do a massive mother of all media campaigns and inform every reporter, TV station, Radio station, Magazine and newspaper in this country about the rally.

We start this campaign now and we will continue it until Monday. Media publicity is very important for the success of the rally. IV is already doing an email campaign to hundreds of immigration reporters today. (Ps.This list was compiled by few IV volunteers from various forums and threads. It will not be made public. So if you have any such list do not post on IV.)

Here is what we want everyone to do:

1) Someone pls draft a cover letter/Letters and post on this thread. We need several such letters so that all emails look different.

2) Copy paste press releases from

touchdownusa.org/RallyCentral/WashingtonDCRallyPressRelease.html

//http://www.touchdownusa.org/RallyCentral/WashingtonDCRallyPressRelease.html
//http://www.touchdownusa.org/RallyCentral/WashingtonDCRallyPressRelease.pdf
//http://www.touchdownusa.org/RallyCentral/WashingtonDCRallyPressRelease.doc

3) Go to the site-
http://capwiz.com/aila2/dbq/media/

and search for various media offices and people in various states and start sending them emails with the press release.

4) If you already know of other media offices, go to their websites and email them.

5) Do a Google search for ' press release distribution'. Go to each site, create a quick account and submit the press release. This will ensure that internet will be flooded with our rally press releases and more people will know about it.

6) If you want to call media offices, then start calling them. You will get phone numbers from
http://capwiz.com/aila2/dbq/media/

Thanks
IV team

Thanks for your thread on this Pappu, I was just about to create this thread.

So here goes the first draft:

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Dear XXXX,

Thousands of SKILLED LEGAL professionals, such as Scientists, Doctors, University Professors, Engineers, MBA's, Health Care Professionals and other professionals from all over the country who have contributed billions to the US ecomony are planning to participate in an unprecedented rally in the nation's capital on Tuesday, Sept. 18th to draw the attention of US lawmakers and American public towards excessive delays and backlogs in the Employment based Immigration system.

A group of rally participants from [your state] is meeting with Senators XXX and XXX with the hope of taking their help in supporting legislative changes to the Employment based Immigration system.

This peaceful rally is being organized by Immigration Voice (http://immigrationvoice.org), a grass-roots advocacy group of high-skilled legal immigrants.

For more information, please visit the following links:

//http://www.touchdownusa.org/RallyCentral/WashingtonDCRallyPressRelease.html
//http://www.touchdownusa.org/RallyCentral/WashingtonDCRallyPressRelease.pdf
//http://www.touchdownusa.org/RallyCentral/WashingtonDCRallyPressRelease.doc
Since this is an unprecedented event from a very quiet group who have always remained in the sidelines of the recent Immigration debates, please provide visibility to this event so the plight of these law abiding, tax paying, highly educated people is spread among a larger group of people that would help drive the required legislative changes.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

State coordinators, please take up this responsibility and work with your team to get this done. I will be coordinating with the people in NH and MA. Lets fire off on all the cylinders now for the final big takeoff...

Dear XXXX,

The issue of comprehensive immigration reform has received widespread coverage in the media over the last few months.
The issue of legal immigration, though a part of the CIR was less controversial and therefore sadly received less coverage.
Legal employment based immigration represents just 14% of all legal immigration and comprises mostly of high demand skills such as scientists, doctors, engineers, and other such occupations which in addition to filling an unmet need, creates further employment opportunities in the US economy. These are also the occupations that represent the most vital human capital of the 21st century for US economic competitiveness. Many of these people are US educated atleast in part and are currently gainfully employed and contributing to this vibrant economy.
Unfortunately the current immigration policy is doing a great injustice to this group of individuals who have quietly and patiently been waiting their turn. Many have waited 5-10 yrs and are still awaiting their green cards. The current backlogs are ominous.
Many have organized into a grassroots organization called Immigration Voice and are planning a pro legal employment based immigration rally in Washington DC on Sep't 18th. We would appreciate coverage of this first of a kind event which puts the spotlight on a just cause which for far too long has gone ignored by our lawmakers.

Pick whatever you like and feel comfortable with. Post it here so we know.

I will work on Washington Post and New York Times. Then, I will work on Associated Press and Reuters.

gsc999 and Franklin should work on Mercury News and San Francisco Chronicle. I think they have a DC office.

First, I have to come up with a sexy letter!

If you are considering national media, please cover Boston Globe as well. I was about to coordinate this with the MA team, but if you can do this, please let us know.

================================================== ======================================

On September 18th thousands of LEGAL TAX PAYING immigrants will unite to bring attention to the plight of waiting years in line with no end in sight.

No flags, no anger, no fodder for Lou Dobbs; this will be the most peaceful march that Washington has ever seen, inspired by the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi.

This rally will not be country specific; People affected by this bureaucratic nightmare come in all shapes, colors and nationalities.

This is a time for all LEGAL immigrants to renew their tryst with destiny. The unworkable Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill that would have added decades to the wait time of LEGAL immigrants is now dead. Piecemeal approach bills are being introduced both in the house and the senate. It is time to stand and make our case - We are professionals, we are highly skilled and we deserve a fair immigration process.

So now fellow immigrant, the choice is yours. Whether you adjusted your status 5 years back or yesterday, you know the nightmare you went through. Others who filed their Adjustment of Status in the avalanche of July 2nd can be expected to remain buried in paper for the foreseeable future. The only way the lawmakers in Washington will hear
our voice is if we stand up and present our case to them. We will put a face to the concept of a legal immigrant and not remain a faceless nameless statistic that lawmakers are used to.

Immigration voice has launched the most comprehensive campaign ever to get you there. We will provide buses if you don’t want to drive, air tickets if you will fly and accommodation when you get to Washington DC on September 18th.

All you need to do is log on to http://immigrationvoice.org, register your details and state how you can be there in Washington DC.

Our case is not complicated, all that is required is tweaking of numbers so that the antiquated immigration policies can be adjusted to the realities and requirements of the 21st Century.

Thousands of people will march from the Washington Monument to the Capitol building on September 18 at 11 AM.

Join them and be a part of history.

Immigration Voice (www.immigrationvoice.org) is a non-profit national grassroots organization committed to feasible solutions to a broken employment-based immigration process. Immigration Voice is advocating for technical changes that will improve the quality of life of several individuals that are stuck in the backlogs/delays, and help the system to work as it was intended.

Macaca-

If only wait times were as little as 2 yrs and 7 yrs...I might not even be fighting!!!

"Currently it takes 7+ years (after 2+ years on student visa) to become a resident."
This is not true in most cases. The F1 might be for 2 yrs minimum + 1 year EAD + at least 2 yrs on H1B before the GC process starts. Then its 7+ years...
So overall, we are talking 10+ years to get permanant residency in a majority of cases.

"Skilled immigrants have waited patiently for 2+ years"
Are we just talking about 2 yrs to see if there is going to be some reform?

If you don't want to get into the trouble of debating how many years, just say that it is unreasonable....

How about contacting Bloomberg Radio? I heard about IV first on it in 2006.

They ran a nice segment and talked to one of the core members. I think it was very effective. They are pro business and any issue affecting "MSFT, GOOG, INTC" is big news for them....

here is small shortcut:So switch off javascript

also the format is like this if you want to send numerically

http://capwiz.com/aila2/mail/compose/?type=ME&alertid=&mediaid=1&mediaid=2&mediaid=3

the "&mediaid=1" seems to be the repeating unit except for the number
my IE only takes 179 address at a time As i mentioned there are 6479 address so if maybe some smart techie knows to increase the address bar size

here is the java code in case anyone wants to generate for different states..
each URL gets 100 mediaids..
i tried creating the file and attaching it but for some reason upload failed everytime. not sure why. So here you go...

public class GenerateClass {

public static void main(String[] args) {
for (int j = 0; j < 65; j++) {

int startNum = j * 100;

StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer();
for (int i = startNum; i < startNum + 100 ; i++) {
sb.append("&mediaid=").append(i);
}
System.out.println("http://capwiz.com/aila2/mail/compose/?type=ME&alertid=" + sb.toString());
System.out.println("\n\n");

}

}
